iLife 2011 is packed with tons of new features on your Mac. In this blog, we will go over each application that was refreshed in this iLife suite. The three applications that got a nice update was iPhoto, iMovie, and Garageband. From past versions, iWeb was included in the iLife suite, but his update, we saw no update to to iWeb. Is this a good thing or not?

iPhoto (overview): Edit your photos on the fly and upload them to your favorite social networking sites straight from iPhoto.

Updates: New Full-Screen Mode, Facebook connectivity, Emailing photos + templates, New Slideshow templates, Advancement in Photo Books, and Letter Press Cards. Some of these updates are small, but when it comes to the user-friendly experience, it makes a world of a difference. Starting with the Full-Screen Mode, allowing the viewer to manage their photos in full screen now, makes the interface of this application look 10x better then before. Facebook connectivity allows users to edit, tag, upload, and track comments of your photos right in iPhoto 2011. This feature makes photo uploading so much easier to manage your content placed online, and keep up with your friend on the fly. Emailing your photos looks more professional then ever, with the new pre-set templates provided to you in iPhoto, you can easily make an invitation, announcement, postcard, letterpress and more with just a few clicks. This feature also allows you to switch photos around with a simple drag-and-drop. Resize you photos and send them off in professional looking email templates pre-set for your convenience. New slideshow templates will allow you to view your photos, and video clips right on your desktop with professional looking transitions and music. These pre-set templates will turn heads at get togethers and makes for a nice replacement of digital photo frames.

Overall, this was a very clean, and successful update for iLife 2011. Watch the video below to earn more about each new feature in the iLife Suite. Enjoy.

How to install fonts
This guide is to help all of you that choose to use our tutorials at MacintoshTipz.com. This just requires a few simple steps, and will help you be more efficient in Photoshop and with our tutorials.

Fonts:

Open up your web browser and go to one of the following websites:
www.dafont.com
www.1001freefonts.com
(there are more out there, but these seem to work the best for me)

Find a font you like, and hit download:

After the download has finished in your downloads window. Open up your downloads folder.

Double click on the folder, and click on the “.ttf ” file. You should then be greeted with a Font Book window and a button that says “install font” in the lower right hand corner. Now you are done, and your font is installed!

Please note, with older versions of Photoshop and Illustrator you must completely quit out of photoshop for the font to be usable. CS3 and above don’t usually have that problem, but if you can’t find your font in your font list… you now know why.

A review of the Developer's Release of Google's Chrome browser for a Mac.

Chrome is the Internet browser developed by Google first released for the Windows operating system in 2008. Mac and Linux users, however, have yet to be able to take this browser for a spin. Google CEO Eric Schmidt has said that Chrome for Mac will be available in “a couple of month”, but, lets face it, most Mac users don’t like to wait for the latest tech—they want it now. Well, don’t fear loyal MacintoshTipz readers, a developer’s download is available as you read this.

If you can’t wait to read this review, head on over to this page to get your hands on it.

Well, I’ve had it loaded up on my iMac for about 48 hours now, and have already come to some conclusions. First off, it’s fast. Like a dress coming off on prom night fast. This version hasn’t been officially tested yet, but my (very) unscientific testing showed it to be 10-15% faster than Safari 4 or Firefox 3.5. As far as rendering content, I haven’t noticed any issues, and when I personally tested it using the Acid3 test, it scored a perfect 100/100. So, bottom-line, as far as the nuts and bolts of internet browsing, a have to rank Chrome on par or better than the current Mac offerings.

Acid3 Test Results

Let’s move on to talk about interface and features. The first thing you’ll notice is the “tabs on top” style layout. This is unique among browsers in that instead of displaying the tabs below the bookmark bar, they appear where normally the title bar would be. This would be a plus if it actually gave you more viewing area, but because they don’t push all the way up to be level with the “close-minimize-resize” button, it really isn’t adding that much. One thing I do really like about the tabs though, is the ability to “drag out” a page. This feature is already in Safari, but trying something similar in Firefox will result in a shortcut on your desktop.

Dragging out a tab

Something else borrowed from the Safari interface is the history based home screen that allows you to see a panorama of your most visited sites. A nice improvement over the Safari version, though, is the ability to display the sites in a list style format. Also on the Chrome home screen you can see recently closed tabs, which is a nice option to get back to a page you accidently closed.

On the “things like Firefox” list is the ability to apply themes to customize the look of your browser window, with a multitude of designs and colors available.

One thing conspicuously missing from the browser is a search field, located in the upper right corner in both Safari and Firefox. Instead, in Chrome this feature is provided by typing non-urls into the address field.

Overall, I think that if you are 100% committed your current browser, I don’t see any “must have” feature in Chrome that will drive you to switch. However, if you are looking for a browser that offers a good mix of both Safari and Firefox, I recommend giving Chrome a try. If nothing else, by downloading this non-official release version, you can say you were one of the first to use Chrome on a Mac.

We all know that you don’t buy your iTunes Music! You get them by using GetTube, LimeWire, Frostwire, other friend’s iPods. But when you use the previous stated sources, you don’t get the ‘bells and whistle’s'; Most importantly, the album artwork is missing, thus coverflow is not being used to its fullest potential, for there are a bunch of blank album covers missing.

Green Screening can be one of the funnest thing that most movie products/ movie editors can play with. It can also be one of your worse nightmares if you don’t film, light, or edit your project right. So today I am going to show you the fastest, cheapest, most reliable, and most professional way to green screen for just a few bucks! The 3 main things that are the most important when working with green screen is something green, great equal lighting, and a program which will chroma key.Something Green: This is one of the of the main concerns that people have when considering a green screen. Its a basic as this..Bright Green Paint, Green Cloth/Screen, Green Poster Board, or whatever you can find that is green. (Note: if using cloth or poster board, make sure there are NO wrinkles or visible tacks and tape when posting). It helps to iron your green screen.

Lighting: This is the most important part of Green Screening. Not only is it keep to have very bright lighting but also as important to make the lighting even throughout the shot. Click here for a diagram for the best lighting layout, and as long as you follow this, then you will be successful.

Chroma Key Software: This is the final step in your project stages of editing. Chroma Keying is when you take the green of your project and replace it with another form of media. There are several applications/software that can do chroma keying such as iMovie 09′, Final Cut, and After Effects. Im my video I show you the easies way to chroma key in iMovie 09′.

With this step-by-step, located below, green screen tutorial I will have your videos looking more professional then ever. Hope you enjoy.
